Perhaps my greatest contribution to each organization I’ve been a part of has been the profound impact I’ve had on the culture. My strong propensity towards investing in people and crafting strong cultures is part nurture and part nature.
I was raised in a family that was very intentional about investing in the lives of others. My father is a remarkable leader. He built an enormous financial services agency by recruiting agents and mentoring them to empower them to open and run their own satellite offices. This, in turn, led to a network of over 1,200 offices across the US and Canada. He was a phenomenal example and mentor to me and his example was especially powerful for me as he welcomed the agents and their families into our home quite often. Because of this, I had front row seats to watch how he would challenge, encourage, and equip the various men and women who worked with him. I was able to witness countless situations where he helped inspire and activate people and teams and the powerful impact that came about as a result.
The example my parents nurtured within me built seamlessly upon my natural gifting. As you can see from looking at my personality profile page, my natural disposition is to see high values in others and I have a natural ability to help people feel hopeful and courageous. As a Merchant personality, I thrive on infecting the world around me with excitement toward a common vision. I not only create teams, I also inspire, motivate, and direct teams toward real opportunities. I learned early on that I loved team building and, in time, became excellent at it. I am naturally wired to pay attention to the environment, energy levels, and motivation of the people around me which helps create exciting and provocative situations that foster great relationships and team dynamics.
By the time I was in Jr. High, I was already infected with a profound desire to pour my abilities and resources towards challenging, encouraging, and equipping others to lead lives of influence and impact. I started taking on leadership roles where I invested in others and helped nurture groups of people into thriving communities. Since that time, I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to form and cultivate countless groups of people in a wide range of situations and contexts.
Below I have shared a few select stories of some of the situations in which I have had the opportunity to infuse my gifts and passions to help cultivate the people around me and foster a rich and rewarding team culture.
