Of all the beautiful places I’ve been and breathtaking sites I’ve seen, The Enchantments rank near the top of the list! The Enchantments refers to an area within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the Cascade Mountain range near Leavenworth Washington. Because of it’s beauty and popularity the Forest Service restrict overnight access to permit holders and permits are offered via a lottery. However, you can tackle the Enchantments as a day hike without the hurdle of obtaining permits. Though, it’s a daunting endeavor since the trail is 18 miles from one end to the other with vertical gain of 4,400 or 6,600 depending on which direction you travel.
Despite the physical challenge proposed by navigating the route in asingle day, I jumped at the opportunity when I was invited to do the hike last fall. And I am so glad that I did! Here are a few photos I snagged along the trail.
